About our Guides

Introduction

With great excitement, we announce the purchase of Feathers and Fins Outfitters from Mike and Avis Russell. As the new owners, we cannot wait to continue the exceptional and friendly service you have come to expect from Feathers and Fins.

To introduce ourselves, we are Jason Hamilton and Amelia Gunn. Originally from Ontario, we have been living and working in Saskatchewan for many years. No strangers to the outfitting world, we both work in the management at Scott Lake Lodge, a great fly-in fishing lodge in Northern SK/NWT. Jason has spent the last 10 years working as a waterfowl (also fishing and big game) guide in Manitoba and Saskatchewan and has been in the guiding world for 20 years. Amelia comes from a hospitality and hotel management background and has worked across Canada in this field.

What can you expect from us? Honesty, transparency, hard work and a commitment to providing the best waterfowl hunting experience and hospitality possible.

The motto Mike has run the business with, “come as clients, leave as friends” will continue. We look forward to meeting you in Vanderhoof this fall and having fun while making some memories and new friends.

BC Duck and Goose Hunting

What to Expect

Feathers and Fins Outfitters provide professional guided waterfowl hunts on exclusive private lands in the heart of British Columbia. We are located in Vanderhoof British Columbia Canada. The land consists of over 20 farms and ranches totalling more than 25,000 acres.

We have 2 labrador retrievers we hunt with Dexy and Oscar.

If you would like to bring your own dog, we can make arrangements at the time of your booking. This will also have to be arranged with your accommodations at your hotel.

Game Birds Hotspot

Vanderhoof is the geographic centre of British Columbia – directly on the Pacific Migratory Flyway. The territory that we hunt is the first major stop for the migratory game birds on their way south, so they are easily attracted to decoys.

The geese we hunt are mainly Canada Geese and a smaller number of Specklebelly and Snow Geese. More than 150,000 of these geese migrate through this area every year.

The duck population is mainly Mallards with a mix of Northern Pintails.  Most fields will be barley and oats, with some rye and peas. The blinds are either layout blinds, or A-Frame style willow blinds  for good access and comfort.
